At NewRoadz we not only try to find out what qualities you look for in a potential new employee. We also focus on management consulting. It has been shown that certain distinctive characteristics notably distinguish excellent businesses from ordinary, good ones. Our inspiration in this is the bestseller ‘Good to Great’ by Jim Collins. This study explains the reasons why the one business is successful and the other is not. The study came to the following seven conclusions: - Level 5 leadership. These leaders rise above other leaders by combining strong professional will with humility and unselfishness. This enables them to get the best out of their employees.
- Recruitment and selection, first who, then what. These leaders first take on the right people who then ensure that the right decisions are made, thus making the business successful.
- Stockdale paradox. While they continue to believe in success, they are not afraid of recognising the hard facts. A working atmosphere is created in which the truth is voiced and heard.
- The hedgehog principle. A business can be like a hedgehog or a fox. The fox works on many things but is unable to integrate them into a single whole. As a business you are better off as a hedgehog that focuses on one thing. They know what they are best at, where their passion is and the economics that keeps the business running.
- Discipline. They create a culture of discipline and set the example.
- Be selective in technology. They attach great importance to technology but find it interesting only if it suits the focus of the business.
- Perseverance. They work steadily, tenaciously and with dedication. Without revolutionary breakthroughs.
These points help an organisation make a difference in its industry.
